BHIG—Blue Hydrogen Industrial Gases is a regional development and investment joint venture (JV) between Saudi Aramco and Air Products Qudra “APQ”. BHIG focuses on supporting clean energy goals through low-carbon hydrogen production.

Purpose

The HYCO Operator, is expected to perform Field and DCS operations of a world scale HYCO Steam Methane Reformer facility for the BHIG Company in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. In addition, he should demonstrate the ability to follow procedures and directions from supervisors and develop an understanding of the Basic Safety Process requirements and Hazards that might be present at the site.

Nature & Scope

The HYCO Operator, reporting to the HYCO Shift Supervisor, is expected to perform field and DCS operations without supervision of a world scale HYCO Steam Methane Reformer facility, The Shift Operator L1 will execute daily tasks which include preparing and implementing safety work permits, LOTO, complete operations preventative maintenance activities, and assist the maintenance and engineering teams in preparing and executing corrective maintenance activities.

Operator L1 will demonstrate an expert level of knowledge in specified skills areas and have multiple areas of responsibility. They will have a solid technical knowledge of the designated plant process with an emphasis on professional development. Level 1 will be shifted independently and fully contributes to a functioning member of the operations team. He will be required to focus on activities and/or roles such as Best Practice Coordinator or SWIM Coordinator and be able to write SWIMs, JSAs, etc. A Level 1 Operator is expected to take a leadership role in TAR / Outages / Start-ups. He will also be responsible for training new operators and participate in board reviews for level 2 and below. If needed, this level person is expected to help in startup and commissioning of new sites in the region as well as training the newly hired workforce. Within Operator Level 1, the operator is expected to gain/demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the listed systems by completing a task list.

Principal Accountabilities

Safety:

o Maintain a safe work environment. Demonstrate leadership with all company & industry safe work processes to prevent injuries. Ensure proper documentation is maintained for safety related activities.

Technical:

o Operate the HYCO Steam Methane Reformer and CO2 recovery units and ancillary equipment including water treatment units as prescribed by the Work Instruction Procedures.

o Operate the pipeline network to supply hydrogen, steam, and CO2 to the pipeline customers safely and efficiently. The Pipeline operations team will be part of the overall operating team and will also manage the oxygen and nitrogen pipeline products.

o Provide Operations support and guidance during the commissioning of the plant. Maintain accurate document control and monitor quality assurance initiatives.

o Provide Operations guidance to ensure safety, reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, and controls.

o Manage plant production efficiently based on input provided by Plant Management and Plant Production Engineering to ensure safety and reliability targets are met to achieve maximum profitability.

o Report shift production progress and plant status to the Shift Supervisor, providing operational solutions for shortfall areas.

o Complete Safety Trainings.

Operations:

o Ensure the safety of all operations personnel by utilizing the BHIG Basic Safety Practice program, which includes Safety Work Permits, LOTO, Confined Space, etc. The position facilitates planning, organizing, auditing, and follow-up, to build BHIG safety culture.

o Demonstrate 4S culture and practice it in day-to-day activities to maintain a positive work environment.

o Ensure compliance with process safety, MOC’s, and OPHR requirements.

o Operating the facility insuring that Environmental and Regulatory requirements are not exceeded.

o Assist in the commissioning activities of the facility.

o Ensure BHIG standards, and global best practices for EH&S, productivity, reliability, quality, and overall customer services are met.

o Follow the Site Work Instruction Manuals for the HYCO, CO2, and ancillary equipment units, along with adhering to other operating and maintenance procedures and checklists to meet the customer’s satisfaction on safety, reliability, product quality, and flexibility of product supply while in compliance of contractual requirements.

o Follow shift turnover protocols to ensure the safe and efficient handover to the following shift.

o Support & maintain close working relationships with engineering and maintenance personnel to continuously monitor & evaluate plant systems & equipment through a Plant Process Advisory Model.

o Support the maintenance and engineering team in maintaining plant reliability through the execution of preventive maintenance activities scheduled and coordinating of corrective maintenance activities of the equipment in order to optimize activities during plant shutdowns to avoid business interruption.

o Provide operations support and participate in investigations and Root Cause Analysis in order to identify and implement sustainable corrective actions.

o Facilitate attainment of operational excellence and customer satisfaction via operations productivity, reliability, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.

o Maintain customer communications and relationships at the ‘board’ level, insuring customer demand rates are satisfied while maximizing the efficiency and profitability of the facility.

o Communication of plant activities with other shifts to maintain continuity between shifts for a safe and reliable operation.

o Execute other duties as assigned by reporting managers in a timely and efficient manner.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

· An associate technical degree (2-year certificate) will be considered based on years of experience and competence.

· Experience in process plant operation, demonstrated HYCO knowledge, a minimum of +6 years of plant operations experience.

o Expectation based on level of experience for the operations team to achieve a ‘Level 1 / Board Level’ status within 2 – 4 years. Operators will be evaluated during the training period and placed at the level of competence accordingly. All the operations team are considered field and board operators when Level 1 is achieved.

· Knowledgeable in the local environmental and health and safety requirements.

· Demonstrated interpersonal skills.

· A strong commitment to employee involvement, team building, and diversity.

· Able to communicate between operations and maintenance teams.

· Ability to communicate with the customer at the board level daily.

· Proficiency in English speaking and writing.
