Job Summary

Responsible to the Senior Manager- Maritime Operations and Quality for preparation, teaching, assessment and coordination of the student teaching and learning process.

Candidate Profile

Responsibilities

1. Prepare and develop descriptions and summaries of units included in the curriculum.

2. Prepare assessments for the purpose of evaluation and improving student performance.

3. Prepare learning sources that needs to be in the library as a reference for students.

4. Determination of needed IT resources to facilitate the academic plans.

5. Maintain accurate records of student data such as grades and attendance.

6. Supervision of student projects.

7. Substitute for other trainers within field or discipline in case of absence.

8. Actively contribute in serving the society.

9. Participate in graduation ceremonies.

10. Participate in the design, coordination, evaluation and refinement of the unit syllabus for learning outcomes in accordance with accreditation requirements.

11. Teaching and execution of unit syllabus to enable students to achieve success.

12. Contribute to the selection and development of teaching materials in accordance with unit objectives.

13. Serve on university, department and program committees as needed.

14. Comply with AU policies and procedures.

15. Other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager- Maritime Operations and Quality.

Qualification

· Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline.

· STCW II/2 Master (Unlimited) Certificate.

Level of Responsibility

To ensure that teaching and learning and associated duties are carried out to a satisfactory standard.

Required Experiences

5 years experience in relevant field.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

· Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline.

· STCW II/2 Master (Unlimited) Certificate.

· 5 years experience in relevant field.

· Proficient in teaching all subjects taught in the HND Nautical Science program.

· Have well developed communication, interpersonal, organizational and classroom management skills.

· Have excellent teaching skills with a commitment to teaching students through a variety of delivery media.

· Be dedicated to student engagement and success.

· Have a passion for the profession and be networked to a Community of Professional Practice.

· Be dedicated to life-long learning and integrity.

· Be a team player.

· Have an excellent knowledge of MS Office and products and be willing to learn other software and learning management skills.

Desirable:

· Training and Assessment qualification that is acceptable to SQA, MCA and City of Glasgow College.

· Recognized significant experience as Master of on ocean going vessels.
