Job description
The Electrical Engineering Department at the United Arab Emirates University is seeking a Research Assistant in the area of electromagnetic sensing, microwave engineering, and dielectric material characterization. The successful candidate will contribute to a funded research project focused on the development of a novel dielectric probe for electromagnetic characterization of liquid and semi-liquid materials.
The Research Assistant will be expected to support the following activities:
• Electromagnetic simulation and optimization using CST Microwave Studio, HFSS, or related software
• Design and analysis of microwave and RF sensing structures
• Development and testing of dielectric probe prototypes
• Microwave measurements using Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) systems
• Calibration and characterization of selected liquid and semi-liquid materials
• Data collection, signal processing, and experimental analysis
• Assistance in software/tool development for material characterization and calibration
• Preparation of technical reports, conference papers, and journal publications
• Laboratory setup, prototype fabrication, and validation activities
The candidate should have experience with electromagnetic simulation tools such as CST Microwave Studio, HFSS, or COMSOL Multiphysics. Experience in microwave measurements, RF systems, signal processing, or scientific programming is highly desirable.
Minimum qualification
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field,
- Strong background in electromagnetics and microwave engineering
- Experience using CST Microwave Studio, HFSS, COMSOL, or related EM simulation software
- Knowledge of RF/microwave measurements and Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) systems
- Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, or similar platforms
- Good technical writing and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary research environment
Preferred qualification
- Experience in dielectric material characterization and sensor development
- Knowledge of metamaterials and microwave sensing applications
- Hands-on laboratory experience in RF and microwave systems
- Experience in PCB-based RF design and prototyping
- Publications, thesis work, or research experience related to electromagnetics, microwave engineering, sensors, RF systems, metamaterials, or dielectric characterization is preferred
