Job Purpose:

The Crane Rigger is responsible for safely preparing, rigging, and signaling crane operations to lift, move, and position heavy loads within mining sites. This role ensures compliance with safety standards and operational efficiency during lifting activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Rigging & Lifting Operations:

  • Select and inspect rigging equipment (slings, shackles, hooks, chains) for suitability and safety.
  • Attach loads to lifting equipment using approved rigging techniques.
  • Ensure proper load balance and secure lifting arrangements.

• Crane Coordination:

  • Communicate effectively with crane operators using standard hand signals or radio communication.
  • Guide crane movements to ensure safe and precise load placement.

• Safety Compliance:

  • Conduct pre-lift inspections and risk assessments.
  • Follow company and regulatory safety standards (OSHA/MSHA or local regulations).
  • Report any equipment defects or unsafe conditions immediately.

• Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain rigging logs and inspection records.
  • Assist in incident reporting and compliance audits.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: Minimum 2–3 years in rigging operations, preferably in mining or heavy industrial environments.
• Certifications:
  • Rigger Certification Level 2 / 1 (Basic/Advanced)
  • Crane Safety Training
• Skills:
  • Knowledge of load charts, lifting angles, and weight calculations.
  • Strong understanding of rigging hardware and lifting techniques.
  • Ability to work in challenging outdoor conditions.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift heavy objects and work at heights.
• Good vision and hearing for signaling and safety awareness.

Work Environment:

• Mining site conditions (dust, noise, variable weather).
• Requires use of PPE (helmets, gloves, safety boots, harness).
