Drilling & Blasting Supervisor

Job Overview

This position will be either in charge of drilling or blasting departments, under the lead of the Drill and Blast Supervisor, when in drilling he will lead; drill operators, leading hands and QAQC team, when in blasting he will lead; blasters, blasting assistants, blasting labours.

Responsibilities and Duties

HSEQ:

· Comply with HSEQ, legislative and functional requirements.

· Report all HSEQ incidents to responsible Supervisor.

· Comply with the JRAR HSEQ Management System.

· Comply with the requirements of the JRAR Disciplinary Code.

· Comply with the Emergency Preparedness and Response Procedure requirements.

· Comply with PPE requirements.

· Fill out daily check lists.

· Do and enforce PTO and planned inspections on work areas.

Drilling Operations:

· Execute the production schedules as per instructions of supervisor by delegating responsibilities to team members.

· Enforce the production plan, monitor progress, revise or modify schedules, and resolve problems.

· Assist supervisor in preparing reports and summaries on shift production.

· Keep supervisor informed of progress, issues, etc. throughout the day and recommend reasonable adjustments.

· Resolve technical problems faced by drill operators.

· Monitor all tools, equipment and machinery for needed maintenance.

· Monitor the activities and verify specifications to ensure quality of work.

· Ensure site specific induction for new staff members.

· Maintain discipline on site and when required discipline employees.

· Train, coordinate and enforce pre-established systems, policies and procedures.

· Enforce proper housekeeping of the site, this includes barrication and demarcation of drill blocks.

· Safety and health of all employees under his responsibility.

Blasting Operations:

· Maintain discipline on site and when required discipline employees.

· Follow and enforce the blast plan received from the supervisor.

· Train, coordinate and enforce pre-established systems, policies and procedures.

· Safety and health of all employees under his responsibility.

· Ensure no contraband is taken on the blast blocks.

· Safe blast clearances, ensuring no employees in the blast radius.

· Final checking of blast connections and tie-ups.

· Monitoring of charging and stemming practices, to ensure proper explosive consumption.

· Barrication and demarcation of blast blocks.

· Resolve technical problems faced in the field, and report to supervisor.

· Monitor all tools, equipment and machinery for needed maintenance.

· Monitor the activities and verify specifications to ensure quality of work.

· Ensure site specific induction for new staff members.

Qualifications

Education Level: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma Mining Engineering, Geology, or related field (preferred)

Years of Experience: Minimum 5–10 years of experience in drilling operations
