Commis Chef I

InterContinental Abu Dhabi is looking for a passionate, motivated, and hardworking Commis I to join our culinary team at our vibrant Sports Bar. The successful candidate will support the kitchen team in preparing quality dishes, maintaining high food safety standards, and ensuring smooth kitchen operations in a fast-paced environment. A little taste of your day-to-day:

Every day is different, but you will mainly be responsible for:

• Assist the Chef de Partie and senior chefs with the daily preparation and operation of the assigned kitchen section.
• Prepare ingredients, including washing, peeling, cutting, portioning, and measuring, according to established recipes and instructions.
• Support the preparation and cooking of menu items, including appetisers, snacks, burgers, main courses, and other Sports Bar offerings.
• Ensure all dishes are prepared according to approved recipes, portion sizes, quality requirements, and presentation standards.
• Complete daily mise en place and ensure ingredients and equipment are ready before service begins.
• Maintain the freshness, quality, and proper storage of ingredients, following stock rotation and labelling procedures.
• Assist with receiving, checking, and storing deliveries in accordance with hotel standards.
• Follow food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and HACCP procedures throughout all kitchen activities.
• Maintain clean, organised, and hygienic workstations, kitchen equipment, utensils, and storage areas.
• Ensure food is handled, prepared, and stored at appropriate temperatures to maintain quality and safety.
• Coordinate with the kitchen team to ensure orders are prepared accurately and served within expected timeframes.
• Support senior chefs during busy service periods, maintaining efficiency and consistency under pressure.
• Follow instructions from senior chefs and actively develop culinary knowledge, cooking techniques, and kitchen skills.
• Assist with stock checks, portion control, and waste reduction to support efficient kitchen operations.
• Report any equipment malfunctions, ingredient shortages, or food quality concerns to the supervisor promptly.
• Complete assigned opening, closing, and cleaning duties in accordance with established procedures.
• Maintain professional grooming, punctuality, and a positive attitude while contributing to a supportive kitchen environment.

What we need from you:

• Previous experience as a Commis Chef or in a similar kitchen position is preferred.
• A culinary qualification or formal kitchen training is an advantage.
• Basic knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations.
• Understanding of food safety, hygiene, and proper food storage practices.
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy, fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Good attention to detail and a willingness to learn from senior chefs.
• Strong teamwork, communication, and organisational skills.
• Positive attitude, reliability, and a genuine passion for cooking.
• Ability to follow instructions and maintain consistent standards during busy service periods.
• Flexibility to work rotational shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
