Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Technical Lead to take end-to-end technical ownership of Origen’s humanoid robot data collection center in Abu Dhabi. This role will oversee the full data production lifecycle, from on-site robot operations and data collection to data processing, quality control, and customer acceptance, ensuring reliable, scalable, and high-quality data delivery.
The ideal candidate combines strong expertise in humanoid robotics, data pipelines, and technical operations with proven hands-on troubleshooting capabilities. Acting as the technical owner within the Project Team, this role will lead technical standards, team operations, vendor management, and customer technical engagement, while ensuring the center consistently meets its productivity, quality, and delivery objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Operations & Reliability
• Serve as the primary technical owner for on-site issues, responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and restoring humanoid robot operations and data collection activities.
• Troubleshoot hardware failures, teleoperation issues, data collection failures, and data format or quality issues across different robot platforms.
• Conduct root cause analysis of operational and data issues and drive corrective actions through to resolution.
2. Data Pipeline & Quality
• Design and build the end-to-end data pipeline covering data collection, synchronization, storage, validation, quality inspection, packaging, and delivery.
• Define data formats, schemas, and metadata standards to ensure alignment with customer technical specifications.
• Establish automated validation and sampling-based quality control mechanisms to identify and prevent data quality issues before delivery.
• Plan and ensure sufficient computing, network, and storage resources to support target data volumes and production requirements.
3. Standards & Team Management
• Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for data collection, annotation, and quality control.
• Establish operator training and certification programs to ensure new team members can quickly and consistently meet operational standards.
• Build and manage the operations team structure, define roles and reporting lines, and oversee day-to-day technical operations, with a strong focus on productivity, quality, and equipment utilization.
• Develop team capabilities across team leads, data engineers, and quality control personnel, and drive knowledge sharing and continuous capability building.
4. Customer & Vendor Management
• Translate customer technical requirements into internal SOPs, data collection targets, and acceptance criteria.
• Act as the technical point of contact with customers, representing the operations team in technical reviews and resolving data acceptance issues and disputes.
• Define practical productivity and quality targets, and monitor hardware vendors and outsourcing partners to ensure delivery against agreed SLAs.
Candidate Profile
1. 5+ years of engineering experience, with hands-on experience in humanoid robotics and/or data pipeline operations.
2. Strong technical knowledge of humanoid robots, with the ability to independently diagnose and resolve hardware and operational issues.
3. Proven experience building and operating large-scale data collection or data generation pipelines.
4. Strong knowledge of data formats, schema design, storage, and data validation tools, with the ability to perform root cause analysis of data issues.
5. Familiarity with robotic software frameworks such as ROS/ROS2, as well as real-time and high-throughput data systems.
6. Proven experience developing and implementing SOPs and quality control processes, with a track record of driving effective execution across teams.
7. Experience managing cross-functional operational teams comprising engineers, operators, and quality control personnel.
8. Strong customer-facing technical communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate technical issues, recommendations, and positions and stand firm on technical requirements when necessary.
9. Fluent in Chinese, with the ability to work closely with Chinese robotics companies and platform vendors.
Good English communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers and local teams and prepare technical documentation.
10. Based in Abu Dhabi or willing to relocate/work in Abu Dhabi.
