Join Standard Chartered as an Operational Risk Analyst, where your expertise will play a critical role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational and technology-related risks within our dynamic banking environment. Based in Dubai, this full-time office position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the robustness and resilience of our risk management framework, ensuring that our operations comply with regulatory requirements while delivering value to clients and stakeholders alike. You will engage with diverse teams across the organisation and help foster a proactive risk culture that supports sustainable business growth and operational excellence.

The role is well-suited for individuals who thrive in a collaborative setting and are passionate about continuous improvement and innovation in risk practices. By supporting risk assessment initiatives and driving control enhancements, you will help reduce the potential operational impacts and strengthen the confidence our clients have in our services. This position embodies our commitment to active risk management as a cornerstone of our operational strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the enterprise-wide identification, assessment, and monitoring of operational and technology risks through detailed analysis and reporting.
  • Prepare comprehensive risk reports, dashboards, and governance materials to inform business decisions and facilitate transparent communication with senior management.
  • Track key risk indicators (KRIs), emerging risk trends, incidents, and evaluate the effectiveness of existing controls to ensure timely risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate proactively with business units and functional teams to enhance risk awareness, strengthen control environments, and embed risk considerations into operational processes.
  • Assist in conducting thorough risk and control assessments, following up on remediation plans and ensuring corrective actions are implemented efficiently.
  • Participate actively in incident management processes, including root cause analysis, assessment of operational impact, and incorporation of lessons learned into risk frameworks.
  • Support regulatory compliance efforts by contributing to audit preparations, governance reporting, and adherence to operational risk standards.
  • Engage in continuous improvements of the operational risk framework, policies, and control standards to adapt to evolving business and regulatory landscapes.
  • Contribute to risk reviews and assurance activities, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and identifying opportunities for process enhancement.
  • Leverage risk analytics and scenario analysis techniques to detect emerging threats and advise on strategic risk responses.
  • Support cross-functional projects aimed at enhancing operational resilience and governance practices throughout the organisation.
  • Foster a culture of strong risk governance by engaging with stakeholders to promote effective communication, training, and adherence to risk policies.

Skills and Experience

  • Strong analytical mindset and problem-solving capabilities, with an aptitude for synthesising complex information to inform decision-making.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling clear articulation of risk findings and recommendations to diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholder relationships, build trust, and work collaboratively across functions in a multicultural environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent organisational skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly advanced Excel for data analysis and PowerPoint for reporting and presentations.
  • Capability to adapt to evolving priorities, showing resilience and flexibility in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Experience or familiarity with operational risk management frameworks, risk assessment tools, or regulatory requirements is advantageous.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and professional development in risk management and related fields.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Risk Management, or a closely related discipline from a recognised institution.
  • Fluent proficiency in English, with strong communication skills suitable for an international banking environment.
  • Professional certifications in risk management such as FRM (Financial Risk Manager) or CRM (Certified Risk Manager) would be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
  • Experience or knowledge of regulatory environments relevant to the UAE or international banking is beneficial.
  • A keen understanding of operational risk principles, governance frameworks, and compliance standards.
